Choosing a scheme for your wedding

As some of you may know, I am getting married next year so I have been immersed in the world of dresses, cakes, venues and, most importantly for an interiors blogger, room styling. To get some inspiration on colour themes, flowers and decorations I have become a little obsessed with Pintrest and today I have picked out some of the most inspiring moodboards I have come across to share with you.

I didn't think I would be one to go for a 'theme' but I am now realizing you kind of have to otherwise how do you decide on flowers/bridesmaids dress etc?! Its a bit of a minefield let me tell you!  These considerations really helped me decide on the scheme for my wedding (which you will have to wait until next year to see!)...

  1. Look to what you wear and the colours you have brought into your home to help you decide your scheme. Don't just choose a scheme because it feels traditional, focus on what colours are 'you'
  2. Create lots of moodboards. I have done about 5 so far and tweaked them a lot to get it just right. Once you have the right board it will be easier to stay on track. What you thought you wanted might not be right when you get it down on paper
  3. I started with flowers because they are what carry the most colour at weddings. Cacti and succulents are what excite me most when it comes to flowers so I started from there and used them as the base of the scheme
  4. Think about what colours suit you and your complexion. Might sound strange but if you have a colour scheme you need to consider your make-up and how that will match up. For example, if corals and peaches don't suit your skin tone you might be better off going for a scheme of neutrals or pinks
  5. Think about your setting and the time of year. For example I love autumnal colour schemes but I am getting married in July and berry reds and plums just wouldn't feel right on a hot summers day
If you are trying to work out what you want for your big day,  the lovely people at Brides The Show in Islington are offering Blomma readers 20% off the ticket price - just add the code BLOMMA at checkout to redeem it. More details about the show below, but first some inspiration...

I love the romance of this colour scheme. The soft greys, taupes and plush make for a dream like rustic feel

These feels perfect for an autumn or winter wedding. The rich colours of the berries and figs create a dramatic yet romantic feel. The addition of navy grounds the colours and would work perfectly for bridesmaid dresses and room detailing

A lovely Spring or Summer theme which would work best for a country wedding. Maybe a little sugary for me?

Black can be overlooked at weddings but I love it in this scheme. The addition of geometric pattern is genius to make it feel modern whilst the corals keep it feeling bridal

This couple chose stars and metallics to tie their scheme together. Such a clever idea if you don't want to be too matchy matchy with a colour. I particularly love the copper accents

How lovely is this? The couple have focused on using nature to pepper their scheme and it looks so fresh and unique

This moodboard feels like it should be for a Scandinavian home rather than a wedding but I think that's why I love it. The rustic materials, texture and muted colours are gorgeous and dream-like to me. Perfect for a relaxed, boho, winter wedding

Which is your favourite? Would love to know what you are planning or did with your scheme.

  1. The service at this place was impeccable. The salad I had for dinner was delicious as well as the scallop appetizer. The main course of filet mignon and dessert soufflé was also awesome!
