I know I am. So as a little starter for 10, here are some ideas from me in two categories: beauty and home...<br /><br /><u>Beauty</u><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4CQ-SzR9ysI/WE0tGJ1peFI/AAAAAAAACmQ/pcckS3mMtoYN2id2RSx8aSN24ipJmxnqwCLcB/s1600/xmas%2B2016%2Bgift%2Bguide%2Bbeauty.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="426" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-4CQ-SzR9ysI/WE0tGJ1peFI/AAAAAAAACmQ/pcckS3mMtoYN2id2RSx8aSN24ipJmxnqwCLcB/s640/xmas%2B2016%2Bgift%2Bguide%2Bbeauty.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><br />From top left...<br /><br /><b>Bobbi Brown Lip and Cheek Pot Rouge</b><br />£18 from <a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/bobbi-brown-pot-rouge-for-lips-and-cheeks/p339234?sku=231522842&amp;s_kwcid=2dx92700013405824130&amp;tmad=c&amp;tmcampid=2&amp;gclid=CjwKEAiAj7TCBRCp2Z22ue-zrj4SJACG7SBEm5qvuEZ67IxFxAh73GlxSurshWvG_IVwav92dcRnJxoChN7w_wcB&amp;gclsrc=aw.ds">John Lewis</a><br />This is a lovely addition to any make-up collection. The Rose colour is universally flattering and who wouldnt enjoy unwrapping the iconic black and white packaging?<br /><br /><b>Murdoch Sea Salt Styling Spray</b><br />£20 from <a href="https://www.murdocklondon.com/sea-salt-styling-spray.html.html">Murdoch</a><br />My must have hair product for that tousled, easy beach hair look. It's been about a year since it was stripped, re-plastered, sanded and fitted with new windows, electrics and heating but it's taken until now before I was really happy with the final product.<br /><br />The room is now probably my favourite in the house as it has the most light and most of the things in it are actually items we are chosen or collected on our travels, rather than things that we have inherited or bought because they were all we could afford. Its become a bit of a mish mash of styles but I absolutely love it and it now finally feels like all the hard work was worth it. For a bit of distraction, here are my top picks for the home this week. Full of inspiration from my recent trip to Copenhagen (travel guide <a href="http://www.blommalondon.com/2016/10/blomma-guide-to-copenhagen.html">here</a>&nbsp;if you missed it) and to address the fact that today suddenly feels very chilly; a mix of textures and Scandi minimalism to twitch at your purse strings (or at least mine!)...</div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6RFr926XvN0/WBRvFqOsLVI/AAAAAAAACiI/CoK5dIqlw_AicS1cZX_8tskzE2Fi4Hu6gCEw/s1600/wednesday%2Bwishlist.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-6RFr926XvN0/WBRvFqOsLVI/AAAAAAAACiI/CoK5dIqlw_AicS1cZX_8tskzE2Fi4Hu6gCEw/s640/wednesday%2Bwishlist.JPG" width="476" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div>Clockwise from top left...<br /><br />Hanging wall art - £198 from <a href="https://www.hollys-house.com/products/storm-print-grey?taxon_id=168">Holly's House</a><br />This Works lavender pillow spray (I am OBSESSED with this) - £16 at <a href="http://www.boots.com/en/this-works-deep-sleep-pillow-spray-75ml_1242285/">Boots</a><br />Wall mirror with shelf - £125 at Hay Design at <a href="https://clippings.com/products/bent-wood-mirror-183941?variation=556271">Clippings</a><br />Floor lamp - £260 at <a href="http://www.grahamandgreen.co.uk/rhea-floor-lamp">Graham and Green&nbsp;</a><br />Velvet bedspread - £79 at <a href="http://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0412376001.html">H&amp;M&nbsp;</a><br />Storage cabinet - £379 at <a href="https://www.swooneditions.com/henkel-mango-wood-and-antiqued-brass-industrial-cabinet">Swoon Editions </a>(I have just bought this for my lounge. It was my first time in Copenhagen (unbelievably seeing as I love all things Scandi right now as you know) and I fell totally in love with the place. The pace of life, the amazing food and of course the beautiful interiors. The Danes basically just know what they are doing in life and I am totally down.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EG1Lb2t_7L4/WBRbZFIYyJI/AAAAAAAAChA/u28D4hveB3kLOIGW0rQHkLdFjT_Nd65gwCLcB/s1600/me.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-EG1Lb2t_7L4/WBRbZFIYyJI/AAAAAAAAChA/u28D4hveB3kLOIGW0rQHkLdFjT_Nd65gwCLcB/s400/me.jpg" width="297" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TCrSJT5bvqs/WBRbZDYha0I/AAAAAAAACg8/wzCiRU14qHw-z-e6qSShj63hFbfJjLsdQCLcB/s1600/Port.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-TCrSJT5bvqs/WBRbZDYha0I/AAAAAAAACg8/wzCiRU14qHw-z-e6qSShj63hFbfJjLsdQCLcB/s320/Port.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><b><br /></b><b>Where to stay</b><br /><br />We stayed in Hotel SP34 which is in the Meat Packing district of the city which is full of great cafes, shops and restaurants so a great base for a trip. We had the eight course and enjoyed beef tartare, scallops, pork belly, beef tenderloin and stout ice cream along with a few surprises in between. The atmosphere is lovely and epitomises Hygge whilst the service is relaxed and unpretentious.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ATtq0TEPO8/WBRbyzd-9uI/AAAAAAAAChM/cxDbpTCIbAkSM-F8xboYsAwAPsqqXK8sgCLcB/s1600/host%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-_ATtq0TEPO8/WBRbyzd-9uI/AAAAAAAAChM/cxDbpTCIbAkSM-F8xboYsAwAPsqqXK8sgCLcB/s400/host%2B2.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Beautiful atmosphere at HOST</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T3Bv-ExqJSM/WBRbzXmGvDI/AAAAAAAAChQ/QVzdqnA3QAonzSvNL8-f3873NYsyrwfoQCLcB/s1600/Host.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-T3Bv-ExqJSM/WBRbzXmGvDI/AAAAAAAAChQ/QVzdqnA3QAonzSvNL8-f3873NYsyrwfoQCLcB/s400/Host.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Scallops served with an apple garnish and yeast soup on the side</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><b>Where to shop</b><br /><br />The shopping is amazing in Copenhagen as you might imagine. One place that I would recommend you stop at though is Hay House, especially if you love interior design. The Hay range of homeware and furniture is typically Danish and the whole range is showcased in this town house in the centre of Copenhagen. With beautiful parquet floors, wood panelling and huge sash windows, the 'house' is as beautiful as the products which furnish it. Definitely worth a look round for inspiration and to escape from the cold for a few moments.<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--ky8a-9Em5c/WBRb-HNuoAI/AAAAAAAAChc/nDyNjD-ZKxEJwyzYkWWRmz4cGWSgchQYgCLcB/s1600/hay%2Bhouse%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/--ky8a-9Em5c/WBRb-HNuoAI/AAAAAAAAChc/nDyNjD-ZKxEJwyzYkWWRmz4cGWSgchQYgCLcB/s400/hay%2Bhouse%2B1.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The beautiful accessories for sale in the shop</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hlantpMfVIk/WBRcA1IVo3I/AAAAAAAAChg/2f3tU-fb1xUqof27kWeL1WM7-eGGvFCQQCLcB/s1600/hay%2Bhouse%2B2.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-hlantpMfVIk/WBRcA1IVo3I/AAAAAAAAChg/2f3tU-fb1xUqof27kWeL1WM7-eGGvFCQQCLcB/s400/hay%2Bhouse%2B2.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The kitchen inspiration in the shop is pure Scandi heaven</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v7SD8iKQuKw/WBRb-E_TKkI/AAAAAAAAChY/9sQCWxnKykgHo6zX0rppcyVXXrmvmxeJQCLcB/s1600/Hay%2Bhouse%2B3.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-v7SD8iKQuKw/WBRb-E_TKkI/AAAAAAAAChY/9sQCWxnKykgHo6zX0rppcyVXXrmvmxeJQCLcB/s400/Hay%2Bhouse%2B3.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">The bedroom to showcase the lovely range of quilts and accessories</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WwG4gJkrxaE/WBRb9Ve_QPI/AAAAAAAAChU/M0lU_M5Rv3UHM1HCtwrSIhAqG3QuCaAtwCLcB/s1600/Hay%2Bhouse%2B4.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-WwG4gJkrxaE/WBRb9Ve_QPI/AAAAAAAAChU/M0lU_M5Rv3UHM1HCtwrSIhAqG3QuCaAtwCLcB/s400/Hay%2Bhouse%2B4.JPG" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Tea towels never looked so good</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><b>What to do</b><br /><br />Copenhagen is a lovely place to just wander, but one place I would recommend swinging by is the Botanical Gardens, especially in Autumn. It might be because I am getting carried away reading the Little Book of Hygge or maybe because today was the first time I have worn a scarf for six months, but I am feeling well and truly Autumnal. Part of enjoying Autumn is nesting down at home and getting ready for the winter months.<br /><br />My favourite spot to be cosy is in a freshly made bed - nothing beats it. But something I am very guilty of (and I think there are a lot of us out there) is leaving quite a long time between updating my pillows and duvets. They are on of those things that no one really wants to spend money on and they often stay pretty low down the priority list but apparently you should change your pillows every two years. In which case I am very overdue...<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mCzcnxa7VQU/V--MqNPHwfI/AAAAAAAACgY/6WpUm8NitUwvfSSNnX6V8aFBeicmuiRJACLcB/s1600/pillows.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-mCzcnxa7VQU/V--MqNPHwfI/AAAAAAAACgY/6WpUm8NitUwvfSSNnX6V8aFBeicmuiRJACLcB/s320/pillows.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br />So when I was approached by Sealy, I jumped at the chance to review their new range of pillows.<br /><br />When I first tried them out, they were a lot fuller than I am used to (probably because my old pillows had seen better days!) and the first night's sleep I was a bit unsure whether they were for me. However a few days later I was totally convinced.<br /><br />The new ‘Select’ range uses a hypoallergenic synthetic fibre which replicates silk so it has a super-fine filling to give softness and springiness. They are also very plump and seem to hold their shape really well which looks really quite luxurious. I normally wake up with my pillow squashed up against my headboard, with the pillowcase half hanging off, but that hasn't happened at all with these.<br /><br />What I really love about them though, aside from them feeling really soft and supportive from a sleep perspective, is that they look great on the bed. They have a really generous amount of filling which ensures the pillow cases are really adequately filled so you get that really sumptuous look which you usually just see on styled shoots.<br /><br />The pillows start at £33.99 and can be found at <a href="http://www.houseoffraser.co.uk/Pillows/BRAND_SEALY_5051,default,sc.html">House of Fraser.</a><br /><br />H x<br /><br /><br /><br /><i>Sealy provided me with these pillows to review, but as ever, all thoughts and opinions are my own.</i>http://www.blommalondon.com/2016/10/sleep-time-with-sealy.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Blomma London)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4470181066647816704.post-8079792392443597380Fri, 16 Sep 2016 10:02:00 +00002016-09-16T03:02:00.229-07:00autumncosyhome pickslightingstylevelvetwarmHome picks for AutumnI am writing this as rain batters at the window and this week's heatwave seems to have finally dissipated. For that reason I think it's probably time to start thinking about Autumn and getting your home ready with some cosy accessories and warm colours.<br /><br />As you know, I normally choose soft pastel colours and muted schemes, but that was before I spotted a burnt orange, velvet chaise lounge as part of Habitat's new collection. Skin care is one of those things that I do end up spending quite a bit of money on. My skin is temperamental to say the least so I am always switching up products and trying new things so I thought I would share what I am using right now in case you are looking for a new solution.<br /><br /><br />Before I start, the reason I started straying from my usual routine recently was because I was having awful breakouts. Not the lovely squeezable kind, but the deep, red, sore, under-the-skin kind which make you feel miserable and they hurt. And there is nothing you can do about it. They were all on my chin so I was told that it is probably hormonal but it was all-month round. Anyway, after doing LOTS of research and using some rather questionable 'drawing out' methods, I read that dairy products might be to blame. I hate jumping on the gluten, dairy, whatever free trend but I was at the end of my tether so tried it. And quite simply, it totally worked. I genuinely haven't had a spot come up since. I have to admit, I haven't been totally dairy free (I love cheese, people) but I don't have any milk or cream and it has really worked for me. I'm sure it won't help everyone out there but I wanted to share it as an option in case you are struggling with hormonal spots, as I was.<br /><br /><br />Aside from that, I seem to have super oily skin at the moment across my t-zone.&nbsp;I guess its from the weather and&nbsp;getting the&nbsp;tube everyday,&nbsp;not to mention the&nbsp;pollution. So a lot of the products I have been using are for combination or oily skin. Come winter, I will most likely have to switch up again and start using products for dry skin so stay tuned come December!<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">&nbsp;</div>SO here you have it: what I am using right now...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aiuzmXvjlGA/V86pFNVkkCI/AAAAAAAACdg/CwGNA_s-dBsFn_U2MMHGYF7TxVn2KEFXQCEw/s1600/skin%2B1.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-aiuzmXvjlGA/V86pFNVkkCI/AAAAAAAACdg/CwGNA_s-dBsFn_U2MMHGYF7TxVn2KEFXQCEw/s400/skin%2B1.JPG" width="400" /></a></div><br />From left to right (front to back):<br /><br /><strong>1. La Roche Posay, Effaclar cleansing gel for oily skin - £11 at </strong><a href="http://www.boots.com/en/La-Roche-Posay-Effaclar-Purifying-Cleansing-Gel-200ml_1102632/"><strong>Boots</strong></a><strong> (currently on sale!)</strong><br /><br />This is quite new for me. It feels incredibly fresh, especially if you are feeling greasy from a long day at work/commute. There isn't much of a smell and it lathers up really well. It's not great at removing make-up so I would do that first and then blitz this in the shower. I use it morning and night at the moment and I definitely feel like oil levels are being kept in check more than they were<br /><br /><strong>2. The Body Shop's Seaweed Toner (again for oily skin), £7 </strong><a href="http://www.thebodyshop.co.uk/shop-by-range/seaweed/seaweed-clarifying-toner.aspx"><strong>here</strong></a><br /><br />I am not sure that this is helping in my battle against oil if I am totally honest. But it does smell amazing and really leaves you feeling fresh and clean so I love this part of my routine because of that<br /><br /><strong>3. Aesop's Parsley Seed Facial Cleansing Masque, £30 </strong><a href="https://www.cultbeauty.co.uk/aesop-parsley-seed-facial-cleansing-masque.html"><strong>here</strong></a><br /><br />I love to use this when I want to feel like I really need a good scrub into my pores. I just use it once a week and it leaves the skin feeling so soft and nourished. I bit of an indulgence but it lasts forever<br /><br /><strong>4. Bioderma's Sebium Pore Refining, £15 at </strong><a href="http://www.boots.com/en/Bioderma-Sebium-Pore-Refiner-30ml_1734048/"><strong>Boots </strong></a><br /><br />This has been a great find (thanks to Lisa Eldridge for the recommendation!). It is a soft cream which you apply to your&nbsp;t-zone&nbsp;and it works to refine the pores and reduce oiliness. I have to say it really does make a difference which you notice as soon as you apply it. I put it on after cleansing at night and also underneath my make-up. Can't recommend enough!<br /><br /><strong>5. Paula's Choice RESIST Multi-correction treatment, £34 </strong><a href="http://www.paulaschoice.co.uk/resist-skin-transforming-multi-correction-treatment-with-azelaic-acid-bha.html"><strong>here </strong></a><br /><br />This is something I have been using for a while and I really like it. It does lots of things, but for me I use it to reduce spots and also to help treat the scars which old spots have left behind. It does make the skin vulnerable to UV rays so I only use it at night and you should follow up with a sun care product or make-up featuring an SPF the next day to protect your skin<br /><br /><strong>6. Charlotte Tilbury's Magic Cream, £70 at </strong><a href="http://www.johnlewis.com/charlotte-tilbury-charlotte's-magic-cream-treat-transform-moisturiser-spf15/p2133530"><strong>John Lewis</strong></a> <br /><br />This is a really thick cream so I think it will be better for me as my skin starts to dry out during the winter months. For now, I have been using it on my cheeks and neck and it is lovely to use. The smell is subtle but really pleasant and it has a very luxurious texture. The packaging, as with all Charlotte Tilbury products is gorgeous, and it acts as a great primer under make-up as well as a moisturiser <br /><br /><br />So that's the current skin situ here at Blomma HQ. Would love any recommendations you guys have, especially when it comes to battling oily skin as the temperatures are set to soar this week<br /><br />H xhttp://www.blommalondon.com/2016/09/my-current-skin-care-routine.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Blomma London)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4470181066647816704.post-2321310204807995482Mon, 05 Sep 2016 11:32:00 +00002016-09-05T04:32:26.696-07:00home accessorieslampslampshadeslightingpookyLatest Obsession... PookyOne of the most important parts of any interior scheme is the lighting.&nbsp;I am quite obsessive about it to the point that I never have the main light on in any room. ever. Some people come round and think its weird (it took Peter some time to understand) but so often it's really harsh and doesn't feel relaxing and cosy. Yes, you can go for dimmer light switches, but again they just don't quite do it for me. I am all about the following...<br /><br /><strong>1. Task lighting</strong><br /><br />This is great in bathrooms, kitchens and if you are reading in bed or in the living room. For me, each of these things can be covered off by either wall lights (above a mirror or next to the bed) or perfectly positioned drop or pendant lighting (above a worktop in the kitchen).<br /><br /><strong>2. Ambient lighting</strong><br /><br />This is what will give you that lovely glow in a room which is cosy, warm and soothing. This is covered off by low level table lamps and hidden lighting, in kitchen cabinets for example.<br /><br />Honestly, if I were brave enough, I would consider ditching the main light in at least my bedroom, lounge and dining room without question but some people think that's kinda crazy.<br /><br />So essentially lighting, particularly wall and table lamps,&nbsp;is so important to me and yet it is really quite an expensive thing to purchase and the choice out there can be pretty limited. The Tom Dixon floor lamps are gorgeous but not everyone has upwards of £1000 to spend on one. Likewise with many other lighting fixtures&nbsp;available on the high-street right&nbsp;now (H&amp;M Home, you NEED to get into lighting please). And also why are lamp shades always so boring looking? And why&nbsp;do quirky lamp bases always drive such a high price? These are the sorts of questions which of course keep me up at night. Therefore I was thrilled to discover <a href="https://www.pooky.com/">Pooky</a>, an independent lighting specialist which not only offers a huge range of perfect lamp shades, bases and pendants but is also totally affordable.<br /><br />Here are some of my tops picks which I will be adding to my shopping list...<br /><br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uPYBW_4uwsU/V81VjCZ8nqI/AAAAAAAACcY/LYi8piubsc4XVYFai004VXBXqYRumF9ZACLcB/s1600/antique%2Brose.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="177" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-uPYBW_4uwsU/V81VjCZ8nqI/AAAAAAAACcY/LYi8piubsc4XVYFai004VXBXqYRumF9ZACLcB/s640/antique%2Brose.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">I LOVE This colour. They are <a href="https://www.theloungeco.com/">The Lounge Company</a> and create lovely pieces in a ridiculous selection of fabrics, colours shapes and sizes. Basically, if like me, you have a very clear idea of what you want in a sofa but haven’t found it yet, chances are these guys have something for you. Each of the 24 piece range is handmade in Britain so you know the quality is right up there.<br /><br />As you know, I have been a slight colourphobe in the past (I blame those monochrome Scandinavian schemes which dominate my Pinterest feed) but I have been trying really hard to branch out. The Summer helps and my visit to Mexico recently completely inspired me (more about that <a href="http://www.blommalondon.com/2016/05/travel-guide-tulum.html">here</a>) so I am trying to inject some more colour at home and in my wardrobe (we’ll ignore the fact I’m wearing black and grey as I type).<br /><br />Therefore, this week’s Look is all about adding a pop of colour at home. As much as I love my grey sofas, I do occasionally wish I had gone for a bright colour to add a bit of drama to the room. I had thought that choosing a coloured sofa would lock me into a scheme which wouldn’t be easily changed (sofas are an investment after all and last years). But the jewel coloured options out there are fresh and modern whilst also kinda traditional, and the fun really stars when you experiment with accent colours. Accent colours are where it is at and mean that you can switch up your scheme easily and relatively cheaply whilst your beautiful sofa sits proud. I hate wanky design terms but maybe jewel-coloured sofas could actually be a ‘new-neutral’.<br /><div><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SnZs9Fm18X0/V8GVCs33MaI/AAAAAAAACac/vRMwx28KYaArU4AJH_nPvOlpzaqC917TACLcB/s1600/The%2BLounge%2BCo_Poppy_George_theloungeco.com_ALT%2B%25281%2529.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="424" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-SnZs9Fm18X0/V8GVCs33MaI/AAAAAAAACac/vRMwx28KYaArU4AJH_nPvOlpzaqC917TACLcB/s640/The%2BLounge%2BCo_Poppy_George_theloungeco.com_ALT%2B%25281%2529.jpg" width="640" /></a></div><div><br /></div><div>This <a href="https://www.theloungeco.com/poppy.html/">Poppy</a> sofa is one of my favourites from The Lounge Company’s collection comes in the most amazing teal colour as shown here. Today they re-launched their&nbsp;original London store in Covent Garden. The new layout is gorgeous and they seem to have so many&nbsp;new products to explore.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">To celebrate the launch, they are offering 25% off certain ranges for 25 days so if you can head down to Covent Garden, hop to it. I love the white plastic dispensers which I put all my shampoo, shower gel and face wash in so&nbsp; that the shower isn't cluttered with lots of different packaging and colours (pretty anal right!?). The scented candles are all natural and smell wonderful, not to mention their range of clean, slick kitchen accessories including beautifully tactile wooden bowls, white crockery and muslin dishcloths.&nbsp;Jersey bed linen, classic natural stationery and cotton pyjamas are also high on my wish list.</div><br />Here are some snaps from the new store - get down there pronto<br /><br />H x<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; Super shaggy, soft and delicious underfoot, they make a wonderful statement, adding a touch of the luxurious world traveller vibe to your home. Whether you are looking for adding some bohemian charm to a neutral bedroom, or&nbsp;a pop of&nbsp;colour to a tired bedroom, a Berber rug could be the perfect addition. I already have three in my house so my love is getting slightly out of hand, particularly when so many great high-street options keep cropping up.<br /><br />To help wade through the wonderful world of the Berber, here are my picks for the best out there right now...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t2tkZ2pf-Bo/V7WKGwB5QYI/AAAAAAAACZM/gukuIYXzgzcsNaEEmJq1Tszp7KqaST44gCLcB/s1600/blommas%2Bbest%2Bberber%2Brugs.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-t2tkZ2pf-Bo/V7WKGwB5QYI/AAAAAAAACZM/gukuIYXzgzcsNaEEmJq1Tszp7KqaST44gCLcB/s640/blommas%2Bbest%2Bberber%2Brugs.JPG" width="475" /></a></div><br /><ol><li>This unique, one of a kind rug is currently being sold at <a href="http://www.urbanoutfitters.com/uk/catalog/productdetail.jsp?id=5532440790012&amp;category=RUGS-EU">Urban Outfitters</a> for £790. It is handmade in 100% wool and measures 9x5ft so is a really decent size. I love the colours which would make an amazing statement in any room, especially if you are going for that bohemian Californian vibe which, I mean, why wouldn't you</li><li>This Berber style rug is great value and from a brand which is really upping it's home accessories at the moment; <a href="http://www.laredoute.co.uk/ppdp/prod-324462312.aspx?docid=221816">La Redoute</a>. Prizes start at £59 but the biggest is still under £200 so really quite reasonable. It isn't wool, but it is stain resistant because of that which means it is going to be hardy in a high traffic area</li><li>This colourful number is from <a href="http://www.westelm.co.uk/charm-wool-rug-t1515">West Elm</a> who do have a great selection of rugs available. They are a it more pricey than some of the other high-street options but the quality is great and they often have sales/offers on so its worth keeping an eye on the website. This one is £499 and is fairly small. It is 100% wool though and the colours are just beautiful.</li><li>One of my favourite small retailers who is bringing amazingly designed, great quality rugs over from Morocco; Ella Jones from&nbsp;<a href="http://www.therugtrade.com/shop/marquise">The Rug Trade</a>. All ethically sourced and handmade by true craftsmen. This is my favourite at the minute - that pink colour against the black. wow. This one is £390 so really quite competitive when you compare against the high-street and you are really getting something very special and unique.</li><li>Finally, if you are looking for rug which brings a touch of colour, but which isn't quite as shouty as the super colourful options out there, then this is a real winner. It is from independent rug retailer the <a href="http://rugmerchant.co.uk/mehari-23064-6969?fee=14&amp;fep=33242&amp;gclid=CjwKEAjwudW9BRDcrd30kovf8GkSJAB3hTxFVSdVxN3RN0BPNRFkvbPIh4pfMRiAx6eJa2rBIC1lrRoCfm7w_wcB">Rug Merchant</a>. It's a really affordable option as it isn't wool, with prices starting at £134. </li></ol>Tempted? I literally want them all. <br /><br />H xhttp://www.blommalondon.com/2016/08/blommas-best-berber-rugs.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Blomma London)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4470181066647816704.post-2402315898344340721Wed, 17 Aug 2016 16:17:00 +00002016-08-17T09:31:13.225-07:00artideasinspirationinstagraminteriorsshoppingwall artwall hangingWall art: Instagram favourites and where to buy them<div class="MsoNormal">If like me, you obsessively follow some of the amazing bloggers and interiors designers capturing their homes on Instagram, you will know that quite often a few of the same home accessories crop up again and again. These are from Holly's House and come in a range of colours priced at £19<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LKIm_BT3ndA/V7SJ8Tjq3PI/AAAAAAAACYs/zd9My177dlIoOulz8OwIWaeAxl5ppOoZgCLcB/s1600/Stendig%2Bcalendar.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="306" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-LKIm_BT3ndA/V7SJ8Tjq3PI/AAAAAAAACYs/zd9My177dlIoOulz8OwIWaeAxl5ppOoZgCLcB/s400/Stendig%2Bcalendar.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>So it's probably a little early to think about buying your 2017 wall calender but the Stendig versions are so much more than a way of planning your diary. This is wall art and no Scandi scheme would be complete without one. They usually sell-out so plan ahead and get in there early. Try T<a href="http://twentytwentyone.com/product/cromwell-company-massimo-vignelli-stendig-calendar-0">wenty Twenty One</a> for yours and expect to pay from £46<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J0Il119SAnI/V7SJ8VeBW0I/AAAAAAAACYc/-5XNgCjTm3ETiOXhu0uS-dYolV3rnV3uACLcB/s1600/Tom%2BPigeon.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="253" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-J0Il119SAnI/V7SJ8VeBW0I/AAAAAAAACYc/-5XNgCjTm3ETiOXhu0uS-dYolV3rnV3uACLcB/s400/Tom%2BPigeon.JPG" width="400" /></a></div>One of my favourites, these art prints by Tom Pigeon are the perfect collection to perk up an empty wall. The colours, crisp lines and interesting movement in these are very appealing and would sit perfectly in my lounge... hmm *checks bank balance*. At £60 each without the frame, getting the trio is somewhat of an investment but if you have the right spot for them, it will be a truly striking feature. The most gorgeous wall hangings kept popping up on my Instagram feed and I decided to give weaving a try. Its actually so simple to pick up and seriously rewarding.<br /><br />I watched a few&nbsp;'how to' guides online and found <a href="https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Lq6qpgd-NVU">this one</a> from Made by Aya which was a really useful basic guide. Since watching it I have started to experiment a little,&nbsp;replicating inspiring designs I have spotted&nbsp;and trying to fudge my way through on my own. I like working like that - just going for it without sitting in&nbsp;front of&nbsp;videos and instruction guides, but there is loads of info out there if you want to keep learning.<br /><br />With Aya's tutorial, the onw thing I did switch was to use a canvas frame instead of&nbsp;cork board. I just bought one from an art shop and ripped off the canvas, using the frame to add the nails for the loom. I find it easier to hold and also you can see the back better.<br /><br />Here are some of the people doing it MUCH better than I am and you should absolutely follow them for inspiration! There are also&nbsp;a couple of my first projects below which look super amateur after this amazing works...<br /><br /><strong><a href="https://www.instagram.com/smileandwave/">Smile and Weave</a></strong><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gxWttvKbm8I/V5ClRjDgRWI/AAAAAAAACXA/7EAgCdpyf5AHjumGhVY9QokNtcO2MhhiACLcB/s1600/smile%2Band%2Bweave.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-gxWttvKbm8I/V5ClRjDgRWI/AAAAAAAACXA/7EAgCdpyf5AHjumGhVY9QokNtcO2MhhiACLcB/s400/smile%2Band%2Bweave.JPG" width="398" /></a></div><br /><br /><strong><a href="https://www.instagram.com/sunwoven/">Sun Woven</a></strong><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qjs708msIkw/V5ClXPjU1tI/AAAAAAAACXE/z6bobgi4gFccm3Gj-uBxpfUMbZ0X1Gz5gCLcB/s1600/sun%2Bwoven.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Qjs708msIkw/V5ClXPjU1tI/AAAAAAAACXE/z6bobgi4gFccm3Gj-uBxpfUMbZ0X1Gz5gCLcB/s400/sun%2Bwoven.JPG" width="398" /></a></div><br /><br /><strong><a href="https://www.instagram.com/weaverella/">WeaverElla</a></strong><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zsSP43PoNCk/V5ClXf6R-aI/AAAAAAAACXQ/PMspxOFOeBQQFjiJiZLdNlYswnKDXy0UgCEw/s1600/weaverella.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-zsSP43PoNCk/V5ClXf6R-aI/AAAAAAAACXQ/PMspxOFOeBQQFjiJiZLdNlYswnKDXy0UgCEw/s400/weaverella.JPG" width="366" /></a></div><br /><br />Some Blomma London originals...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fLy3LxRL1wM/V5ClXXl4PhI/AAAAAAAACXM/sJ5txCUDgi8sVJrzBrzNAYB68W3a0k3aACEw/s1600/wall%2Bhanging%2Blarge.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-fLy3LxRL1wM/V5ClXXl4PhI/AAAAAAAACXM/sJ5txCUDgi8sVJrzBrzNAYB68W3a0k3aACEw/s400/wall%2Bhanging%2Blarge.jpg" width="320" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qC0Y8vkCx8M/V5ClXJQyejI/AAAAAAAACXI/BSW1dR4nf5k4bXYFC_-udfifDe0C9y67QCEw/s1600/pink%2Bwall%2Bhanging.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-qC0Y8vkCx8M/V5ClXJQyejI/AAAAAAAACXI/BSW1dR4nf5k4bXYFC_-udfifDe0C9y67QCEw/s400/pink%2Bwall%2Bhanging.jpg" width="400" /></a></div><br />Really enjoying exploring this medium and definitely urge anyone looking for something new to try to give it a go - really rewarding and flexible so you can get really creative.<br /><br />H x<br /><br />http://www.blommalondon.com/2016/07/new-hobby-weaving.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Blomma London)0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4470181066647816704.post-8173600188044459095Thu, 23 Jun 2016 14:50:00 +00002016-06-24T05:52:02.363-07:00chairdeshome officestationerystoragetipsworking from homeFive things to consider when creating a home office<span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p>This week I have been thinking about home offices. One of my colleagues is leaving the agency I work at to go freelance, and she is currently in the process of turning one of her bedrooms into the perfect office space.</o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p></o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p>I think it’s so important to have a dedicated space to work from, otherwise you end up working in your pyjamas from your bed or in front of the TV with This Morning, Loose Women, Homes under the Hammer… you get the gist. We have all been there. The risk of distraction at home is serious, so having the perfect space to hunker down in is key to actually get anything done.</o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p></o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p>So here are my top five things to consider when creating a work space at home…</o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p><br />1. A clear desk, a clear mind</o:p></span><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p></o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p>I</o:p></span><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p>t’s all about storage. Ensuring you have space to hide away files, accounting documents, tax information etc is going to ensure you are organised to keep the stress of mess far away. Invest in pretty box files and shelving to keep them out of the way so you can focus on the job at hand. My favourite spots to buy include Ikea and Kikki K, although Paperchase also have some create desk organisers.</o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p></o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p>2. Let there be light</o:p></span><br /><span style="font-family: &quot;calibri&quot;;"><o:p><br />Having a good source of lights is really important. Having a desk in front of a window or a skylight helps you stay focused whilst ensuring your eyes don’t go totally square staring at a bright screen in a gloomy room. I would also ensure you have blinds fitted, rather than curtains; they block out less light when open but they also allow you to control the amount of light you let in if the sun is inconveniently bright on your screen. For rooflights or VELUX windows try <a href="http://roofblinds.co.uk/">RoofBlinds.co.uk</a> for a whole range of super flexible options.</o:p></span><br /><br /><br />3. Get comfy<br /><br />One of my least favourite things about working in an office is the swivel chairs which you can never get quite high, reclined or straight enough. At home go for a chair which is beautiful but also comfortable. It needs to give the right amount of back support, but a soft seat cushion and a height which means you can sit with your feet flat on the floor will make all the difference.<br /><br /><br />4. Keep it neutral<br /><br />When decorating a home office, I would be inclined to keep things quite neutral in terms of a colour scheme. Fresh whites or light greys will ensure the room feels bright and airy which will make you more inclined be work in there whilst also providing some much needed zen on a Monday morning.<br /><br /><br />5. Keep it flexible<br /><br />For most people, having a home office means handing over a bedroom but that doesn’t mean you won’t occasionally need the space to act as a place for guests to stay over. If so, it’s a good idea to consider this when planning which furniture to buy. A sofa or day bed is the perfect way to ensure the room can still be used as a bedroom when necessary and also provides an area to veg on when you need to break away from your desk. Made.com and Ikea have some great affordable options.<br /><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rStI1cBQcys/V2v0peuiiyI/AAAAAAAACWU/b4JYDPo7g3Athzra2SKI6Huf4nVH7DCtgCLcB/s1600/office.png" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="480" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-rStI1cBQcys/V2v0peuiiyI/AAAAAAAACWU/b4JYDPo7g3Athzra2SKI6Huf4nVH7DCtgCLcB/s640/office.png" width="640" /></a></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><div align="left" class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">Clockwise from top left…</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div>Receipts file, <a href="http://www.kikki-k.com/">Kikki K</a><br />Desk chair, <a href="http://www.westelm.co.uk/">West Elm</a><br />Pens, <a href="http://www.kikki-k.com/">Kikki K</a><br />Blackboard, <a href="http://www.ikea.com/">Ikea</a><br />Margaret Howell for Anglepoise lamp, <a href="https://www.anglepoise.com/">Anglepoise</a><br />Mac Book Air, <a href="http://www.apple.com/uk/">Apple</a><br />Desk tidy, <a href="http://www.paperchase.co.uk/">Paperchase</a><br />Desk file, <a href="http://www.kikki-k.com/">Kikki K</a><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"><br /></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">H x</div>http://www.blommalondon.com/2016/06/five-things-to-consider-when-creating.htmlnoreply@blogger.com (Blomma London)1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4470181066647816704.post-538940996126897568Fri, 06 May 2016 11:37:00 +00002016-05-06T04:43:08.995-07:00accessoriesartisanscolourdrinkembroideryfoodhandmadeinteriorsmescalmexicoshoppingtequilatextilestravelTulumwhiteTravel Guide: TulumDespite it being unseasonably warm in London this week, I can't help having a few twinges of the holiday blues&nbsp;since&nbsp;getting back from an amazing trip&nbsp;to&nbsp;Tulum in Mexico. Tulum is unlike anywhere I have been before; the perfect combination of&nbsp;white sandy&nbsp;beaches, untamed jungle and delicious food with some ancient Mayan ruins thrown in for good measure. The laid back hippy vibe&nbsp;is infectious and I felt totally at home and 'zen' as soon as we arrived. <br /><br />The area is becoming more and more touristy, and&nbsp;you can't help notice&nbsp;the&nbsp;big plots of jungle advertised for sale. Therefore I imagine more&nbsp;and more hotels will soon start popping&nbsp;up&nbsp;which will eventually take&nbsp;something of the rustic charm away from the place,&nbsp;so I would urge anyone who is thinking about going, to go soon.<br /><br />Here is my guide on some highlights from our stay and where to stay, eat and visit whilst you are there.<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fXk05FTd0DI/VyyDRLpIjpI/AAAAAAAACVA/_GWJvSpBxiwNApiHlqeFDu_KhGvQKUjfQCLcB/s1600/IMG_3865.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fXk05FTd0DI/VyyDRLpIjpI/AAAAAAAACVA/_GWJvSpBxiwNApiHlqeFDu_KhGvQKUjfQCLcB/s640/IMG_3865.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><br /><strong><a href="http://nesttulum.com/">Nest</a> Tulum</strong><br /><br />We stayed at a new guest house which only opened in December, so its still a bit of a secret (taxi drivers were mostly dumb founded) and it was absolutely gorgeous. The décor was stunning and we had an amazing view straight out into the ocean.&nbsp; It only has eight rooms so it feels really intimate and definitely has the nicest, quietest spot on the beach. Breakfast was simple and delicious, with fresh fruit, granola and eggs and the staff were amazing. <br /><br />Next door, a short walk along the beach is Be Tulum which is great for lunch, as Nest itself doesn't have a restaurant. The downside from being at the quieter end of the beach is that the hub of restaurants is about a 10/15 minute walk away and you are about a 40 minute cycle to the Mayan runs and the town. This suited us fine - taxis are easily available and cheap and the hotel had bikes you could use whenever you needed them.<br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><br /></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZqF3tAp-d8o/Vyx2xaGc88I/AAAAAAAACTI/WYPL_oDMxFAB7aE6sJjPDWlSWdTVnh1aACLcB/s1600/IMG_3872.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-ZqF3tAp-d8o/Vyx2xaGc88I/AAAAAAAACTI/WYPL_oDMxFAB7aE6sJjPDWlSWdTVnh1aACLcB/s320/IMG_3872.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mg52hRyiZFY/Vyx2xTy-ePI/AAAAAAAACTA/YdZPDkeLFb4b03ua6pHzWwh8_hmAeMd_ACLcB/s1600/IMG_3874.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Mg52hRyiZFY/Vyx2xTy-ePI/AAAAAAAACTA/YdZPDkeLFb4b03ua6pHzWwh8_hmAeMd_ACLcB/s320/IMG_3874.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--z2J_NOCFT4/Vyx2xolP9EI/AAAAAAAACTM/gwI9cd0rJU0ciaSxSH7-DZQ2qkM4SbNAACLcB/s1600/IMG_3875.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/--z2J_NOCFT4/Vyx2xolP9EI/AAAAAAAACTM/gwI9cd0rJU0ciaSxSH7-DZQ2qkM4SbNAACLcB/s640/IMG_3875.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TxXjmOr-xgc/Vyx2xi6j1nI/AAAAAAAACTQ/qVOyJ6SlRxoJ4UBEDyX3_tJPQEjJZ6L6wCLcB/s1600/IMG_3877.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-TxXjmOr-xgc/Vyx2xi6j1nI/AAAAAAAACTQ/qVOyJ6SlRxoJ4UBEDyX3_tJPQEjJZ6L6wCLcB/s320/IMG_3877.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QTQvCSIorZc/Vyx2xvcJvBI/AAAAAAAACTU/HK8ygmdzMj8jALmOhJrxA3QqS5QSqfsGgCLcB/s1600/IMG_3894.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-QTQvCSIorZc/Vyx2xvcJvBI/AAAAAAAACTU/HK8ygmdzMj8jALmOhJrxA3QqS5QSqfsGgCLcB/s320/IMG_3894.JPG" width="320" /></a></div><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1dP7C80Ajks/Vyx2xyCDl3I/AAAAAAAACTY/M6uka4Cp1foCtlh0F1w_HAV7ZjEpcRrZwCLcB/s1600/IMG_3907.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-1dP7C80Ajks/Vyx2xyCDl3I/AAAAAAAACTY/M6uka4Cp1foCtlh0F1w_HAV7ZjEpcRrZwCLcB/s320/IMG_3907.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RWKxWUtqS5c/Vyx2yKC70yI/AAAAAAAACTg/m6NIxxdD7t0H6o8Wo8Z89sIY3k5w2vjmgCLcB/s1600/IMG_3909.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-RWKxWUtqS5c/Vyx2yKC70yI/AAAAAAAACTg/m6NIxxdD7t0H6o8Wo8Z89sIY3k5w2vjmgCLcB/s320/IMG_3909.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kvsrAUC9jh0/Vyx2yGZbcHI/AAAAAAAACTc/OaqCxfp1jCYc1h2gKubmKJHEzzWKrN_NQCLcB/s1600/IMG_3963.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="522" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-kvsrAUC9jh0/Vyx2yGZbcHI/AAAAAAAACTc/OaqCxfp1jCYc1h2gKubmKJHEzzWKrN_NQCLcB/s640/IMG_3963.JPG" width="640" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Happy hour at Nest Tulum</td></tr></tbody></table><br /><strong>Eating and drinking</strong><br /><br />As it is so hot, we mostly stayed on the beach side of the Boca Paila during the day and then in the evening enjoyed the restaurants and bars on the jungle side (mosquito spray a serious must have!).<br /><br />A lot of people rave about <a href="http://www.hartwoodtulum.com/">Hartwood</a>, a restaurant which was recently given a killer review in the New York Times. This has meant that to get a table you need to queue at 3pm the evening you wish to dine, with no guarantee you'll get in. We decided not to bother (who can honestly be arsed when they're on holiday to queue when there are so many great places to eat) but in the end, we happened to be passing after an afternoon mosey around the shops and only had to wait five minutes. I have to say for the hype, it was a bit disappointing. The food was good, but not stand-out compared to other places we hade eaten. I had the octopus which was really salty and the ribs (their signature dish) was pretty average. I would say that the atmosphere there is amazing and the staff were super friendly and helpful so it was a lovely evening, but if you miss out for the queues I really wouldn't sweat it.<br /><br />The two places which stood out food-wise were definitely <a href="http://www.betulum.com/eng/index.php">Be Tulum</a> and <a href="http://www.casabananatulum.com/#welcome">Casa Banana</a>. Both served amazing food in a lovely setting. At Be Tulum, have the ceviche, crispy shrimp and chicken tacos. Oh and the smoothies and&nbsp;fresh coconuts are exceptional - watching&nbsp;a guy with a machete chop up a coconut ready for&nbsp;you to drink is pretty special #skills.&nbsp; At Casa Banana try the shrimp skewers and the steak, all cooked on a roaring fire.<br /><br />When it comes to drinks, you have to get down with some Mezcal cocktails and there aint no better than the ones at <a href="http://www.gitanotulum.com/#caribbean-beach-gypsy-dinner">Gitano</a>. Lovely atmosphere and spicy cocktails make for a good night but avoid the food, it wasn't great and Peter got food poisoning after snacking on their pulled pork tacos. <br /><br /><u>Be Tulum</u><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dnCpw775LyI/Vyx6vbAY5nI/AAAAAAAACTw/lC4Z3KpzSdsJMuRxAv21iK9wZk3UdfqWwCLcB/s1600/IMG_3900.JPG" imageanchor="1"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dnCpw775LyI/Vyx6vbAY5nI/AAAAAAAACTw/lC4Z3KpzSdsJMuRxAv21iK9wZk3UdfqWwCLcB/s320/IMG_3900.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KfTYvzEvjvI/Vyx6vb0IGwI/AAAAAAAACTs/LY-4kJy9d78GCemUf7YiZ4zJLj2tEqLDgCLcB/s1600/IMG_3916.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-KfTYvzEvjvI/Vyx6vb0IGwI/AAAAAAAACTs/LY-4kJy9d78GCemUf7YiZ4zJLj2tEqLDgCLcB/s320/IMG_3916.JPG" width="240" /></a></div>&nbsp;<u>Gitano</u><br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fmpVynzAN94/Vyx6vSinNYI/AAAAAAAACT0/LD2BTlVYQKEbXU3tjoH3Xf4jFD8p9449wCLcB/s1600/IMG_3935.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-fmpVynzAN94/Vyx6vSinNYI/AAAAAAAACT0/LD2BTlVYQKEbXU3tjoH3Xf4jFD8p9449wCLcB/s640/IMG_3935.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><u>Hartwood</u><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nQ19q1msChU/Vyx6vuDXMmI/AAAAAAAACT4/WISKcmwn4J8CuLASOp2zaz2bPeNHaliOQCLcB/s1600/IMG_4032.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nQ19q1msChU/Vyx6vuDXMmI/AAAAAAAACT4/WISKcmwn4J8CuLASOp2zaz2bPeNHaliOQCLcB/s640/IMG_4032.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><strong>Things to do</strong><br /><br />We got horrendously sunburnt on our first day so decided that we NEEDED to get a spa treatment at <a href="http://www.coquicoqui.com/tulum/">Coqui Coqui</a> to ease our tight skin. We has the most amazing coconut scrub, Aloe Vera wrap and full body massage over looking the sea from their treatment room - a seriously magical experience. They literally squeezed aloe vera gel straight from the plant, all over us which felt incredible. They use their own oils as part of the treatments which you can purchase in their shop, all of which smell amazing but my favourites were Tobacco and Manderas.<br /><br />Talking a cycle along the beach road to the Mayan Ruins was amazing and you should definitely see them whilst you are there if you can. On the ride, you will cycle past the open sea where you can watch pelicans fishing, through thick, humid&nbsp;jungle and then finally onto the historical site which is truly impressive. My favourite part was the amount of lizards and iguanas at the site, all languishing in the sun and on the monuments like they had been there for thousands of years. It is quite touristy, as you would expect, and super hot so go early to beat the crowds and the heat. Also, make sure you take small denominations of money - the entrance fee is low and the ticket office won't give change so you need to exact amount.<br /><br />Finally, you should visit a cenote&nbsp;- a natural pool which is filled with incredible wildlife. There was one just a five minute cycle from Nest and we went for a wander round. People go swimming and kayaking on the cenote but the 'swim at your own risk' sign, featuring a crocodile was enough to put me off that idea. It is beautiful though, and really untamed so if you are braver than I, you should check it out and go snorkling. There are jaguars in the jungle which you can often see on the edge of the water and amazing fish and birds around the area.<br /><br /><u>Coqui Coqui</u><br /><u></u><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z83VTb-Qf3I/Vyx-CxvihjI/AAAAAAAACUQ/Fj38OVIa3JYoijAVmxZnhsQkec12m5fYgCLcB/s1600/IMG_3878.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://4.bp.blogspot.com/-Z83VTb-Qf3I/Vyx-CxvihjI/AAAAAAAACUQ/Fj38OVIa3JYoijAVmxZnhsQkec12m5fYgCLcB/s320/IMG_3878.JPG" width="240" /></a><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nG2alz4uOBA/Vyx-CV-3cCI/AAAAAAAACUE/BbhaGr3LeGkLhgQ9krq_Go1g1q8HDmjUQCLcB/s1600/IMG_3882.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-nG2alz4uOBA/Vyx-CV-3cCI/AAAAAAAACUE/BbhaGr3LeGkLhgQ9krq_Go1g1q8HDmjUQCLcB/s320/IMG_3882.JPG" width="256" /></a></div><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IzVZJFyBfX8/Vyx-CX1Oq9I/AAAAAAAACUI/LHV68aFEOhYiG_3LkmzXJEbInjSGd7vFQCLcB/s1600/IMG_3880.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-IzVZJFyBfX8/Vyx-CX1Oq9I/AAAAAAAACUI/LHV68aFEOhYiG_3LkmzXJEbInjSGd7vFQCLcB/s640/IMG_3880.JPG" width="480" /></a></div><br /><u>Mayan Ruins</u><br /><u></u><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sErBUybeKBE/Vyx-k_z4AiI/AAAAAAAACUU/g-wxD_mOaSkoZFfbiA6OBok7FSYLqrSZwCLcB/s1600/mayan.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="400" src="https://1.bp.blogspot.com/-sErBUybeKBE/Vyx-k_z4AiI/AAAAAAAACUU/g-wxD_mOaSkoZFfbiA6OBok7FSYLqrSZwCLcB/s400/mayan.jpg" width="298" /></a></div><br /><strong>Shopping</strong><br /><br />Shopping on the beach road is pretty varied. Lots of boutiques have popped up, selling leather sandals, linen clothing and beachwear at high prices. They were nice to mosey round, but I was more interested in the Mexican artisans which are selling some lovely textiles and handmade home accessories such as hand-woven baskets and dream catchers. The best spot was just beyond Gitano and Hartwood so if you are going to queue for the restaurant, mixing in a shopping trip makes it a little less of a slog.<br /><br />Also nearby is a great shop selling craft and speciality Mexican spirits, including lots of Mexcal and Tequila in intricate bottles. We went a bit crazy in there - especially after sampling five shots of vintage mescal - sneaky sales tactic.<br /><br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IK48g_aKGhQ/Vyx_9YZZ82I/AAAAAAAACUo/veRX0raT0kojSuPVM-8MsVXD8U_qSR25wCLcB/s1600/IMG_4062.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-IK48g_aKGhQ/Vyx_9YZZ82I/AAAAAAAACUo/veRX0raT0kojSuPVM-8MsVXD8U_qSR25wCLcB/s640/IMG_4062.JPG" width="592" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">My hoard of souvenirs</td></tr></tbody></table><br />Hand woven cushions, throws and home accessories. <br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kg8qa0g6yKo/Vyx_9V4LcyI/AAAAAAAACUs/48yipkFQtkEdzxZLvFbDQKELFj3TTJcPACLcB/s1600/IMG_4005.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://3.bp.blogspot.com/-Kg8qa0g6yKo/Vyx_9V4LcyI/AAAAAAAACUs/48yipkFQtkEdzxZLvFbDQKELFj3TTJcPACLcB/s320/IMG_4005.JPG" width="320" /></a><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3PvfJkcrNts/Vyx_9GhLQVI/AAAAAAAACUk/6BIUaFm7tvsVIsOgfDgubo1muHdr5qNfACLcB/s1600/IMG_4030.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="320" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-3PvfJkcrNts/Vyx_9GhLQVI/AAAAAAAACUk/6BIUaFm7tvsVIsOgfDgubo1muHdr5qNfACLcB/s320/IMG_4030.JPG" width="240" /></a></div><br /><br />These are just a few ideas, I would love to hear any other things people would recommend as&nbsp;I will definitely be going back. The sun, sea and sand combined with cerviche, cervezas and cenotes (big natural pool things) I have high hopes for this being a truly awesome break. <br /><br />One of my favourite things about going on holiday is buying up a few new items to add to my (limited) holiday wardrobe to get into the spirit of things. Tulum's hippy, relaxed vibe is perfect for adding a few bohemian additions to the proceedings and I wanted to share a few things I will be investing in from one of my favourite online boutiques - <a href="http://bohemiadesign.co.uk/">BohemiaDesign.co.uk</a> <br /><br />First up is this gorgeous woven pom pom <a href="http://www.bohemiadesign.co.uk/collections/baskets/products/market-pom-pom-basket-orange-pink-red">basket</a>, which retails at £32. It is ethically made in Morocco and comes with a variety of different colours. Its perfect for the beach to hold your suncream, Kindle and sunglasses not to mention your Hamman beach towel, which leads me on to my next choice...<br /><br /><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dXMPfw53h3A/VxZXgsKjEAI/AAAAAAAACSI/OZOOdokZBFMUkMdnhDwFM4AGbYFPfYZ-ACLcB/s1600/Bohemia-Basket-Market-Pom-Pom-Red-2015_1d079a85-4862-492f-a1d7-345594e1078b.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="https://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dXMPfw53h3A/VxZXgsKjEAI/AAAAAAAACSI/OZOOdokZBFMUkMdnhDwFM4AGbYFPfYZ-ACLcB/s640/Bohemia-Basket-Market-Pom-Pom-Red-2015_1d079a85-4862-492f-a1d7-345594e1078b.jpg" width="480" /></a></div><br /><br />Hamman towels make perfect beach towels - they absorb water quickly,&nbsp;they are&nbsp;thin and light for packing in your suitcase and they look gorgeous. <a href="http://www.bohemiadesign.co.uk/collections/hammam-towels">These ones</a> come in a range of colours and patterns and start from £32 each. No more worrying about windows,&nbsp;plasterwork and damp issues - the fun stuff can now begin. </div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">One of the weirder aspects of our house is the layout of the hallway. Normally in a Victorian terrace you walk in and have the staircase in front of you and rooms off to the left or right. In truly unique, and completely unfathomable style, when you walk into ours you just have a straight hallway covering the whole length of the house which leads straight to the original back door. So essentially you have a really long passage which doesn't really do anything or offer any living space. It just leads to a redundant door (we put a new back door onto the kitchen) and access to the cellar (far to creepy to actually venture into).</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">I wanted to do something which would break up the space a little and give some personality to the hall - something which is actually really difficult when it is narrow and no furniture will fit down there.</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;">&nbsp;</div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: left;"></div><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jnmus5BUJLA/Vp5jOWk88cI/AAAAAAAACMM/jBRXCXq4KxQ/s1600/hallway%2Bstyling.JPG" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: 1em; margin-right: 1em;"><img border="0" height="640" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-Jnmus5BUJLA/Vp5jOWk88cI/AAAAAAAACMM/jBRXCXq4KxQ/s640/hallway%2Bstyling.JPG" width="640" /></a></div><br />To do this, we decided to use the radiator to act as an anchor point. It sits exactly in the middle of the hall and marks the point where you turn into the house (lounge, stairs and dining room) so it made sense. Finding a console table which was tall enough and wide enough to clear the radiator was near enough impossible unless you went for something which was quite deep but that would have infringed too much for the width of the hall so wasn't really an option. In the end we found this great media shelf from <a href="http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40265946/">Ikea</a> which was perfect as it was shallow in depth and didn't require brackets to be attached to the wall, so it doesn't look too shelf-like. As £30 it was also a steal. To frame the area I also added a rug and some chosen accessories which bring&nbsp;a bit of&nbsp;character. The metal storage box from <a href="http://www2.hm.com/en_gb/productpage.0326342001.html">H&amp;M</a> is perfect for unopened letters and post so they don't languish on the doormat.<br /><br />Other accessories are as follows:<br /><br />Runner - <a href="http://www.westelm.co.uk/mini-pebble-wool-jute-rug-b859">West Elm</a><br />Basket - <a href="http://www.ikea.com/gb/en/catalog/products/40252449/">Ikea&nbsp;</a><br />Antlers and green pot are vintage items I have collected over time<br /><br /><br />It is still a little sparse so I expect more items to grow on here over time. Hope you had a wonderful holiday and I am sorry you are (most likely) back at work today. I feel your pain, but let's try to get through this together...<br /><br />To kick off the new year I wanted to revel in my love for,&nbsp;and obsession with, a wall hanging I got for Christmas. Walls are something I am still coming to grips with and having things hanging from them is something I find quite challenging. Not a particular lover of a picture wall, or of a lone piece of art in a frame, hanging somewhere awkwardly and alone, I'm never quite sure what to do. The pictures you do chose to hang also say so much about you, or at least they probably should, so&nbsp;I find it can be quite pressured to select something. An insight into my deepest internal struggles there.<br /><br />Anyway, when I saw this Elkeland wall hanging from <a href="http://www.fermliving.com/webshop/shop/living-room/objects/elkeland-wall-hanging-large.aspx">Ferm Living</a> I knew it was exactly what I have been looking for...<br /><br /><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0tBHUJvMALM/VoqjEt1_TFI/AAAAAAAACLY/afEcJFROn3k/s1600/Wall%2Bhanging%2Bferm%2Bliving.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://1.bp.blogspot.com/-0tBHUJvMALM/VoqjEt1_TFI/AAAAAAAACLY/afEcJFROn3k/s400/Wall%2Bhanging%2Bferm%2Bliving.jpg" width="300" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Made with 100% merino wool in the Danish woodland</td></tr></tbody></table><div class="separator" style="clear: both; text-align: center;">&nbsp;</div><table align="center" cellpadding="0" cellspacing="0" class="tr-caption-container" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto; text-align: center;"><tbody><tr><td style="text-align: center;"><a href="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dVFVxa_VhW0/VoqjEnmDrJI/AAAAAAAACLU/aJ68xz3qjjA/s1600/wall%2Bhanging%2Bferm%2Bliving%2Bbedroom.jpg" imageanchor="1" style="margin-left: auto; margin-right: auto;"><img border="0" height="400" src="http://2.bp.blogspot.com/-dVFVxa_VhW0/VoqjEnmDrJI/AAAAAAAACLU/aJ68xz3qjjA/s400/wall%2Bhanging%2Bferm%2Bliving%2Bbedroom.jpg" width="400" /></a></td></tr><tr><td class="tr-caption" style="text-align: center;">Over my bed in a sort of dream-catcher-esque vibe</td></tr></tbody></table><br />I love the creamy colour against Farrow and Ball's Dimpse and the brass bars pick out the side lamps.
